I’m a survivor… I’m not gonna give up.

If you’ve been reading my past blogs, you’d know that I was prepared. I was ready more than ever to brave mother nature, the crowds and the overnight stay in search of the ultimate plasma deal.
My Black Friday plans went as follows: I awoke early Thanksgiving morning to volunteer out in Haleiwa, which btw, was extremely fun and rewarding. (Mahalo’s to Mr. Li for arranging and coordinating) Next, a quick stop at my parent’s place in Mililani to eat with mi familia, then off to the Park’s for a few beers. Having convinced Tom to get a similar TV, we figured 8 PM would be early enough to jump in line. Yet, lo and behold, apparently 80+ people thought it wiser to wait earlier. We came to find out that the earliest of the bunch were in line from 8 that morning!
With my plasma dreams quickly fading, I went home crushed. The next morning, Tom awoke and took it upon himself to wheel and deal at smaller electronic boutiques, while I stupidly waited in the Circuit City line (which moved all of ten feet in an hour). In any case, after wheeling and dealing, Tom got us a deal for my dream plasma for $100 less than Circuit City offered! And I got to take it home that day! Whee!
I learned two important life lessons this Thanksgiving.
- Anyone who thinks Hawai`i people aren’t as crazy (or crazier) about sales when compared to the mainland – obviously never saw the line outside of the Iwilei Best Buy at 8 AM Thanksgiving morning.
- With a little persistence and some business-minded folk, anything is possible.
