Ryan Kanno: The diary of an Enginerd in Hawaii

Everything you’ve ever thought, but never had the balls to say.

Save the cheerleader, save the world my @$$.

“Save the cheerleader, Save the world”

*Spoiler Warning*: Plot and ending details about the latest Heroes episode.

I’ll be the first to admit that I haven’t been following Heroes as closely as I would’ve liked. A television show based on the premise of real-life X-men initially didn’t appeal to me. Yet, after being hook, line, and sinkered with angst-ridden anticipation, this last episode was just plain crap.

Plain crap I tell you.

Here’s my list of reasons why:

  1. Sylar’s a wuss. Sure, he can magically teleport, slice people’s heads off with his invisible finger light saber, and survive 20 foot falls, but he can’t avoid Eden’s voice. Yeah, I know… I’m not saying I could resist her either (voice that is), but this leads me to my second point.
  2. If Eden could control Sylar, why in the world didn’t the Doctor just let Eden hang around Claire for one night? Was he trying to protect his daughter from finding out what he really does? Did he not know how strong Eden was? In the episode, he seems to imply that he knew Eden could handle Sylar. All in all, a really murky storyline.
  3. Third, When Sylar is near Peter in the hallway tossing lockers @ him, why didn’t Peter absorb Sylar’s power?
  4. If a guy who just chopped your former BFF’s head off is missing and the guy who’s purportedly there to save you is all bent out of shape, do you… a) run off alone into the dark to find help or b) run off alone into the dark to find help?… Seriously now.
  5. I’m just a cheerleader.” Need I say more?

Overall, I was just really, really disappointed with how anti-climatic the Sylar-Claire-Peter scene was. As ominous a figure Sylar’s been portrayed as, the writers really pulled a fast one on us. Not to mention, the entire episode was so… predictable. However, through all the clouds, there is a ray of sunshine - in the Mohinder Suresh storyline and the exploration of his relationship with his recently deceased father. I also enjoyed how the subject of pre-destination was touched upon… all very interesting topics indeed.

Even though I thought this episode wasn’t up to par, I am still wondering where Hiro teleported off to, if radioactive guy is the key to the nuclear explosion in New York, and what’s in store for Sylar. I guess we can’t find out until I see you next week… on the same bat time, on the same bat channel.

  1. [...] The more I watch Heroes, the more disappointed I’m getting, and I’ll tell you why. As a man of science, I need a science-fiction story with as few holes as possible. In my last post, I pointed out a few of the discrepancies that bothered me. Well, I think the writers need to go back to the drawing board after this one. [...]

  2. [...] Considering how disappointed I was with the last two episodes, “6 Months Ago” and “Homecoming“, to be perfectly honest, my expectations weren’t too high. [...]
